Family Life was started as an initiative that began in 1983, when the Catholic Diocese of Kericho was still under the apostolic administration of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru.

It falls under the Pastoral Office of the Diocese, in the same category as other pastoral groups such as CMA (Catholic Men’s Association), and CWA (Catholic Women’s Association.)

Its founding coordinator was Mrs Mary Towet from Kapkilaibei Parish, and its current coordinator is Mr Andrew Kosgey from Ndanai Parish, who was officially appointed administrator by His Lordship Bishop Emeritus Emmanuel Okombo in 2018. The main purpose of the initiative is to promote spiritual growth and nourishment for families and to promote formation in preparation for the administration of the Sacrament of Marriage, which is done through their official mandate and training of Catholic couples and even other Christians on topics such as Natural Family Planning, Positive Parenting, Mental Health, Marriage and Accompaniment, and Family Resilience.

Members of Family Life comprise married couples and those undergoing formation towards marriage. The members in their Parish levels in Parishes such as Kaplong and Litein Parishes, visit each other’s houses, where their meetings and formation sessions happen every month. Members also have Family-themed Masses at the Diocesan Level once a year in August, with couples and aspiring couples from all 48 Parishes in the Diocese attending. Other initiatives include Merry-go-rounds amongst the member families, and mentorship of the Young Family component that comprises couples who have been married not more than fifteen years.

Working under the patronage of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, family life members seek to sanctify their households following this sacred example, and make them havens of love, peace, and spiritual growth and nourishment.
